Who Are The Poor?

In the Gospels, the Poor include:

• people with few material resources
• the powerless
• refugees
• social outcasts
• etc.

The following biblical texts will be helpful to our understanding:

• Matthew 5:1-12 “Blessed are the poor in spirit . . .”
• Matthew 11:1-6 – ” . . . the good news is proclaimed to the poor . . .”
• Matthew 19:16-30 – “. . . sell your possessions and give to the poor . . .”
