Following Jesus: Reflection

Overview

This web page will help you develop the important habit of daily, weekly, and monthly reflection! Reflection is one of the godly habits that you will develop as you learn to follow Jesus.  Remember that we begin by establishing godly habits, then turning them into skills, and finally, building those godly habits/skills into your ministry.

The habit of reflection is in keeping with a spiritual life that is governed by rhythms and yet interruptible by the Holy Spirit. The rhythms of our life help to ensure that we live a spiritually balanced life. Our openness to the Holy Spirit ensures that we’re available to him even when he wants to do something with us that would not normally occur to us.

Prayer of Examen

The Jesuit practice of Examen (originated by Ignatius of Loyola) can be an extremely helpful approach to reflection and meditation.

Daily Reflection

Because our approach to discipleship, or following Jesus, is based on the 7 “F”s, we have incorporated them into our reflection plan. It is structured as follows:

  • Each “F” is assigned to a specific day of the week.
  • There is a morning reflection component.
  • There is an evening reflection component.
  • Our reflection plan honors the Sabbath as a day for looking back over the whole week.
