Sermon On The Mount

SotM
The Sermon on the Mount (SotM) is found in chapters 5 – 7 of the New Testament Gospel According to Matthew. It comprises Jesus’ core teaching about what it looks like to follow him in his Kingdom. You can read it here:
SotM Culture
If you’ve just followed our suggestion above and read the Sermon on the Mount, it’s quite likely that you recognized at least part of it. Many of us have read or heard it on various occasions over the years. Unfortunately, merely hearing or reading this important teaching is not enough! Consider Jesus words in Matthew 7:21-27 – the final section of the Sermon on the Mount:
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
Matthew 7:21-27 (NIV)
It’s not enough to hear or read what Jesus said here (or anywhere else). We must put it into practice. As a congregation, that means making the Sermon on the Mount part of our culture. At Life Church are determined to do just that: We are determine to make the Sermon on the Mount part of our culture!

SotM Weekly Readings
Here is a list of the SotM readings that we share with the congregation every week (typically via email). We encourage you to reflect throughout the week on how you effectively you are putting them into practice and adjust your life accordingly! The purpose of this list is to keep the SotM teaching before us through the year. The rotation below will take us as a congregation through the entire SotM three times a year.
Please be sure to check out the following page from our Following Jesus: Focus On The Message Training for greater insight into these passages:
The following resources from the class will be helpful to you as you read, study, and interpret these passages and as you put them into practice:
