Lesson 6: Gethsemane

Lesson 7: Jesus Arrested

    • Luke reports that Jesus’ disciples asked him if they should strike with their swords.
    • Matthew, Mark, and Luke report that one of Jesus’ companions drew his sword and cut off the ear of the servant of the high priest.
    • Luke and John report that Jesus tells them to stop. Luke further reports that Jesus healed the wounded man.
    • John reports that the person who struck with the sword was Peter and names the man he wounds as Malchus.

Topics to explore:

    • Jesus makes it clear that, if he asked, the Father would give him more than 12 legions of angels. A Roman legion at that time numbers roughly 6,000 soldiers.
