Lesson 2: Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand
Main text and related passages:
- Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand – Matthew 14:13-21 – Bible Gateway
Checkout the following:

- Matthew places this after Jesus learns that John the Baptist has been beheaded.
- Mark and Luke place this both after the Baptist’s death and after the apostles’ return.
- John’s Gospel doesn’t relate this to either of those events.
- Jesus wants to focus on his disciples, but he serves the crowd anyway.
- Jesus teaches the crowd about the Kingdom of God.
- Jesus challenges the disciples after their successful mission.
- Jesus works with what they have – not with what they don’t.
